MediaMonkey is a digital media player and media library application developed by Ventis Media Inc., for organizing and playing audio on Microsoft Windows operating systems. By using plugins, it can be extended to handle video and other media formats as well. MediaMonkey is available in a free version as well as a paid version ("Gold" license). In addition, skins, extension scripts, and plugins are supported. MediaMonkey uses SQLite to manage its database.

MediaMonkey Features:
+ Audio CDs
Music can be ripped from Audio CDs and encoded into most supported formats as well. Music can be burned to CD/DVD format in compressed or CD audio format, optionally normalizing the volume level of the songs in the process.
+ Supported formats
Supported music formats include MP3, AAC, MP4, OGG, FLAC, WMA, APE, MPC, and WAV. Many more are also available via plugins.
+ Conversion
MediaMonkey also allows automated conversion from all supported formats to MP3, OGG/Vorbis, WMA and WAV with total control over quality and volume settings. Registration to MediaMonkey Gold is required for converting more than five files to mp3. Alternatively, the user can replace the included MP3 encoder library with a free one, such as LAME.
+ Media library
Users are able to quickly search the media library using tag and database information. Library information can be conglomerated with the statistics feature allowing users to see how they listen to music and use the software.
+ Tagging
MediaMonkey features a multi-format tag editor that can save to a variety of tag formats including ID3v1 and ID3v2.3, Vorbis comment, WMA, APEv2, and RIFF tags. It can also read some obscure tag formats, such as the .WAV file tags written by MusicMatch Jukebox. When this is coupled with the format conversion feature it allows users to convert their libraries away from proprietary formats which may no longer be supported.
MediaMonkey also handles automatic and "intelligent" tagging of songs based on file names and playlist information (by scanning the songs or using the auto-tagger) and can gather information from online sources such as Amazon and FreeDB.
Furthermore, files can be scanned with the Replay Gain algorithm to normalize the perceived loudness of tracks or entire albums. The result can be written to the file's tags and to MediaMonkey's database.
+ Organizing
Music files on the hard drive can be automatically organized in any way the user wishes using an auto-organize function that renames and relocates media files based on tag and library information.
+ Synchronization
Support for portable audio devices allows one-button synchronization and auto-synchronization, to synchronize tracks and playlists with a broad range of portable devices. Synchronization includes on-the-fly music format conversion (when necessary) and includes:
- Apple iPod Standard, Mini, Photo, Shuffle, Nano, Classic, Touch + Touch v2, iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS
- iriver iFP-8xx, iFP-9xx, PMC-120, H10, N-xx, PMP-1xx, H120, H320, H340, T10
- Creative ZEN Xtra, Micro, Neeon, Sleek, Touch, Vision, Vision:M, V, V Plus, ZEN
- Microsoft Zune is supported through a registry hack by changing the service provider from Zune to WPD.
- Sandisk Sansa Slot, Fuze, View, Clip, Shaker, Express, c200, e200, Connect, c100, m200, e100
- Some mobile phones
- USB Mass Storage (MSC) devices
- Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) devices (including Microsoft PlaysForSure devices)
+ Ripping
MediaMonkey has a ripping feature that works on the iPod Touch, a device which is otherwise only able to sync with a computer (i.e. if one syncs an iPod Touch with a computer, all the files on the Touch will be deleted and replaced with those on the computer). MediaMonkey can rip files directly off of an iPod Touch onto a hard drive, simliar to how the older iPod models allowed for ripping of files off the physical device itself, through My Computer (the iPod Touch does not offer this capability natively).
